Responding to a growing population of vehicle dwellers on neighborhood streets, Palo Alto7 on Monday became the latest Peninsula city to launch a "safe parking" program for residents without homes.

By a unanimous vote, the council agreed to let local churches designate up to four spaces on their lots for car campers. Much like in similarly established programs in East Palo Alto7 and Mountain View, participants will partner with social service providers who will assist users of the program in finding permanent housing.

Compared to the other programs, Palo Alto's7 will be relatively modest both in scale and in ambition.... (More)

The "edge effect" vs. spreading the value of a public asset

How much public access does their have to be to make a public asset really benefit an entire surrounding community?

Even a small area to launch a  SUP or kayak matters, right?

Transformation of public housing into mixed use development

Does anyone have any good stories about moving from public housing to mixed use development with the result of not giving up any public housing units but adding value to the lives of the residents and town via increase in productive property? 

Investing in a Transitional Neighborhood

What encouragement or advice do you all have as it relates to investing in a transitional neighborhood where the home renovation will out price the market? Worth the risk? Are we crazy to consider doing that? We want to see the neighborhood thrive, but also don't want to be the only one making an investment. We would rather be a catalyst than an outcast.
